Eurasian skylarks are native to Europe, Asia, and North Africa. Some populations remain resident, while eastern Asian birds migrate toward southeastern China for winter. They live almost entirely in open country, including cropland, meadows, grassland, and marshes with cereal grasses or low vegetation, generally avoiding trees. Adults measure 18–19 centimetres, span 30–36 centimetres, and weigh 17–55 grams. Their streaked brown plumage and buff-white underparts provide camouflage, while crown feathers can be raised into a small crest (Animal Diversity Web).

Skylarks forage on the ground for seeds, waste grain, beetles, caterpillars, spiders, millipedes, earthworms, and slugs. Males perform extended song flights, climbing to 50–100 metres before hovering and spiraling downward while producing trills, whistles, mimicry, and other complex phrases. Females build grass-lined nests in shallow ground depressions. Clutches contain three to five eggs, incubated for 11–15 days. Both parents feed and protect the young, which leave the nest only eight to ten days after hatching (Animal Diversity Web).
