The Tibetan fox is a compact highland fox with an elongated muzzle, narrow upper jaw, and unusually long canine teeth. Its dense coat and thick underfur provide insulation in exposed uplands. Color varies from black or brown through rusty shades, becoming yellowish around the neck and back; a tawny dorsal band contrasts with white on the muzzle, belly, and tail. The head and body measure 575–700 mm, with a further 400–475 mm of tail. (Animal Diversity Web)

Tibetan foxes inhabit the Tibetan Plateau and adjoining highlands of China, India, and Nepal. They favor rocky or brush-covered slopes, barren ground, and streambeds, reaching approximately 5,300 m. Shelter is taken in excavated dens, rock crevices, or burrows beneath boulder piles. A male and female may hunt together and share captured food. Pikas are especially important prey, supplemented by other rodents, hares, rabbits, small ground birds, and eggs. (Animal Diversity Web)
