The Aleutian tern is a medium-sized tern 32–39cm long with a 75–80cm wingspan, weighing 84–140g, with a short pointed bill and a long, deeply forked tail. It closely resembles the Arctic tern. Both have a black cap, but the Aleutian tern has a white forehead, a black bill and black legs, while breeding Arctic terns have bright red bills, feet and legs (Wikipedia, general species account).
It is a migratory bird that lives in the subarctic region most of the year. Its winter range was unknown until the late 1980s, and it is now known that many spend the winter near the Equator in the western Pacific. The typical clutch is two eggs, and it is generally silent while incubating (Wikipedia, general species account).
