The Alexandrine parakeet is one of the largest parakeets, 56–62cm from head to tail tip, with a 28–35cm tail, and weighs 200–300g. It is predominantly green with a light blue-grey sheen on the cheeks and nape, a yellow-green abdomen, a red patch on the shoulders and a massive red beak with yellow tips. Young birds resemble adult females but have shorter tails (Wikipedia, general species account).
It eats a variety of wild and cultivated seeds, buds, fruits and nuts, and usually lives in small flocks, forming larger groups where food is abundant or at roosts. The source does not describe its status in China (Wikipedia, general species account).
