Range

Size

Females under 42mm, males under 35mm snout–vent; tadpoles to 35mm

Amolops torrentis is a torrent frog with sexual size dimorphism: adult females have a snout–vent length under 42mm and males under 35mm, and tadpoles grow to 35mm. It has a distinct tympanum edge and a tibio-tarsal articulation reaching beyond the snout when the hind limbs are pressed forward, which distinguish it from other Amolops in China and South-east Asia (Wikipedia, general species account).

It is found in streams and surrounding wetland, and gets its name from its proximity to fast-flowing water. Males give high-pitched mating calls favoured by females, and they change the call frequency, but not the intensity, in response to stream noise (Wikipedia, general species account).
