Dicrurus leucophaeus
Habitat
Loose cup nest in a tree
Range
Widely distributed across eastern and South-east Asia
Clutch size
3–4 reddish or brown eggs; breeds May to June
The ashy drongo is widely distributed across eastern and South-east Asia, with several populations that vary in the shade of grey, in migration patterns and in the size or presence of white patches around the eye. Some subspecies have a white eye-patch, as do several island forms that breed further south, and an Indian form is very dark. Its calls are a little more nasal and twangy than the black drongo's (Wikipedia, general species account).
The breeding season is May to June, with a clutch of three or four reddish or brown eggs laid in a loose cup nest in a tree. Many populations in the northern part of the range are migratory (Wikipedia, general species account).
