The ashy minivet is a passerine of eastern Asia in the cuckooshrike family, 18.5–20cm long. While most minivets have yellow, orange and red in the plumage, this species has only greys, whites and blacks; the male is distinctive with a white face and black nape, though females can be confused with females of a related minivet. The call is a high-pitched, metallic trill (Wikipedia, general species account).

It breeds in south-east Siberia, north-east China, Korea and Japan, laying four to seven eggs incubated for 17–18 days. It forages in the canopy, often with other minivets, and joins mixed-species foraging flocks. It was first noted on the Indian mainland only in 1965 (Wikipedia, general species account).
