The cinereous tit, or Asian tit, is a bird in the tit family, grey-backed with white undersides, a black hood and white cheeks. It is made up of several populations that were earlier treated as subspecies of the great tit, which in the new sense is distinguishable by its greenish back and yellowish underside. The Japanese tit was formerly a separate species and is now grouped with it (Wikipedia, general species account).

About four to six eggs form the normal clutch, and both parents take part in incubation, hissing from within the nest when threatened. In southern India and Sri Lanka the breeding season is February to May (Wikipedia, general species account).
