The bar-throated minla inhabits montane forests from India to Malaysia, mainly at 1,800–3,750m, although it may descend to about 1,300m during severe winters. It uses evergreen broadleaf, mixed, pine, oak-rhododendron and bamboo habitats. Summer food consists chiefly of beetles, caterpillars and other insects; berries, seeds and nectar supplement the winter diet. Outside the breeding season it joins mixed flocks and feeds from the canopy to near ground level. Its cup nest holds two to four eggs. (Wikipedia, general species account)
