The baya weaver is a social seed-eating bird of the Indian subcontinent and Southeast Asia. Flocks forage on plants and the ground in grasslands, cultivated areas, scrub and secondary growth, often taking paddy and other grain from harvested fields. The species is famous for its suspended, retort-shaped woven nest, usually attached to a thorny tree or palm frond near or over water. Outside breeding activity, flocks may roost communally in reed beds. (Wikipedia, general species account)
