The black redstart is a small Old World flycatcher associated with rocky landscapes across Eurasia and North Africa. Its breeding distribution reaches central China, while northern and eastern populations migrate and those in milder regions may remain resident. Several subspecies differ principally in adult male underpart colour and vocalizations. Asian males can show blackish upperparts and chest with deep rufous lower underparts, while females and juveniles are generally paler grey-brown or sandy. (Wikipedia, general species account)
