The black-throated prinia is a large prinia, 12–17cm long and 8–16g, with an extremely long tail making up to 10cm of its length. Males and females look alike, though males are slightly larger with a comparatively longer tail. The throat is white in the non-breeding season but black, breaking up into black splotches on the breast, in the breeding season. It is very active, foraging while continuously moving its long tail (Wikipedia, general species account).
It is found in the eastern Himalayas from eastern Nepal through northern India, Bhutan and south-western China. Three to five greenish eggs with red splotches are laid and incubated for ten days. It was considered the same species as the hill prinia and the rufous-crowned prinia, but is now treated as separate on the basis of morphology, song and genetic studies (Wikipedia, general species account).
