Psilopogon asiaticus
Habitat
Lowland and montane forests at 200–2,000m, frequenting fruiting trees
Range
Foothills of the Himalayas and South-east Asia
Size
19–22cm
The blue-throated barbet is a stocky, green barbet about the size of a myna, 19–22cm long, with a short tail and lighter yellow-green underparts. The head and neck are distinctive, with a bright red forehead, a black stripe across the crown and a red rear crown. It is a non-migratory, arboreal bird of lowland and montane forests at 200–2,000m, frequenting fruiting trees, and a resident breeder in the Lower Himalayas and South-east Asia (Wikipedia, general species account).
Because of its green colour it blends into the canopy and is difficult to spot but easily located by its continual loud calls, notes such as 'took-a-rook' and 'pu-ku-ruk' repeated 90–105 times a minute. The sexes are similar in most respects and share domestic duties (Wikipedia, general species account).
