Breeds in Mongolia and neighbouring China, Tibet and India; winters on open lowlands in southern Asia

Blyth's pipit is a medium-sized pipit that breeds in Mongolia and neighbouring areas of China, Tibet and India and is a long-distance migrant to open lowlands in southern Asia. It is a large pipit but undistinguished on the ground, mainly brown above and pale below. It is very like Richard's pipit but slightly smaller, with shorter legs and a shorter dark bill (Wikipedia, general species account).

Its flight is strong and direct and its call is a characteristic pshee, higher-pitched than Richard's. It is insectivorous. It is named after the zoologist Edward Blyth, and the species name commemorates Victor Godlewski.
