The brown banded cobra (Naja fuxi) is a venomous cobra of south-western China, collected in Sichuan between 1,000 and 1,400 m and probably present in western Guangxi and south-western Guizhou. It was treated as part of the monocled cobra until genetic work in 2022 made it a separate species. (The Reptile Database; Wikipedia, general species account)
Adults measure 69–137 cm. It resembles the monocled cobra in its mostly single-eyespot hood marking but is brown with regular narrow crossbands on the middle to hind body. Its prey includes amphibians, snakes, birds and small mammals, and it has been reported entering houses in Yunnan to take chicks. Several were found in abandoned termite nests in winter in Menglian County. (Wikipedia, general species account)
