The brown dipper, also known as Pallas's, Asian or Asiatic dipper, is an aquatic songbird of the mountains of the east Palearctic. At 22cm and 87g it is the largest of the dippers, a thrush-like bird with a cocked tail and chocolate-brown plumage, slightly lighter on the back and breast (Wikipedia, general species account).

It feeds either by diving into streams to take larger benthic organisms, or by wading in shallow parts of streams and picking smaller organisms off the bottom. Diving for larger food is necessary in the breeding season, when more food is required, and adults forage by wading for the rest of the year (Wikipedia, general species account).
