Diet
Grain, leaves and invertebrates
Size
Adult male 100–120cm, of which the tail is about 80cm
Lady Amherst's pheasant, sometimes called the Chinese copper pheasant, is unmistakable. The adult male is 100–120cm long, with the tail accounting for about 80cm. It has a white and black nuchal cape and a red crest, a horn-coloured bill and blue-grey legs. The genus name comes from the Ancient Greek for 'with golden crest' (Wikipedia, general species account).
It feeds on the ground on grain, leaves and invertebrates, but roosts in trees at night. The male gives a metallic call in the breeding season (Wikipedia, general species account).
