Motacilla citreola
Habitat
Wet meadows and tundra when breeding
Range
Breeds in the central Palearctic; winters in South Asia
Size
15.5-17cm
The citrine wagtail is a slender wagtail, 15.5 to 17 cm long, with the long, constantly wagging tail typical of its genus. The breeding male is grey or black above with white on the wing feathers, and bright yellow below and on the whole head except a black nape. In winter the yellow is diluted by white and the head is brownish with a yellowish eyebrow. Females look like washed-out winter males (Wikipedia, general species account).
It breeds in the central Palearctic in wet meadows and tundra and migrates in winter to South Asia, often to highland areas. Its taxonomy is much debated because it is part of a cryptic species complex with the yellow wagtails.
