The collared falconet is a very small falcon, 18cm long, shrike-like in shape and mainly pied, with bold white supercilia and collar and a relatively heavy double-toothed bill. It has shortish wings, a medium-length tail, strong half-feathered legs and powerful feet. Rapid wingbeats are interspersed with long glides (Wikipedia, general species account).
It is found in the Indian subcontinent and South-east Asia, mostly at 200–800m and fairly regularly up to 1,700m. The source does not mention China, so its occurrence there is unconfirmed here (Wikipedia, general species account).
