The common rosefinch is a widespread Eurasian finch measuring 13–15cm. It has a stout, conical bill. Mature males show a brilliant rosy-carmine head, breast and rump, dark-brown wings with two indistinct bars and a white belly. Females and young males are much duller, with yellow-brown upperparts, a brighter rump, greyer head and buff underparts. Some authorities proposed moving it to the genus Erythrina, but the opened account retains it within Carpodacus. (Wikipedia, general species account)
