The common wood pigeon is a large pigeon native to the western Palearctic. It is basically a grey bird with a pinkish breast, and adults bear a series of green and white patches on the neck and a pink patch on the chest. The wingspan is 68–80cm, the tail 13.8–15cm and the eggs hatch after 17–19 days (Wikipedia, general species account).

It has a flexible diet, feeding mainly on plant material including cereals, and is therefore considered an agricultural pest. In autumn it also eats figs and acorns, and buds of trees and bushes in winter. It is extensively hunted over much of its range, without an apparent major effect on numbers. The source does not describe its status in China (Wikipedia, general species account).
