Cook's swift is a small bird superficially similar to a house martin, with very short legs used only for clinging to vertical surfaces. It has a green iridescence and a shallow tail fork and is a short-distance migrant. A 2011 study led many taxonomists to split it from the fork-tailed swift complex (Wikipedia, general species account).

It builds nests on cliffs, laying two or three eggs, and breeds in limestone caves of Thailand, Myanmar and Indochina. A swift returns to the same site year after year, rebuilding its nest when necessary (Wikipedia, general species account).
