Deep oceanic waters, especially near submarine canyons and slopes
Range
Temperate, subtropical and tropical oceans worldwide
Size
Approximately 5–7m

Up to approximately 3,000kg
Cuvier's beaked whale has a stout body, small falcate dorsal fin and short, poorly defined beak. Adults become increasingly pale around the head, and males carry two small teeth at the tip of the lower jaw and often bear extensive scarring. The species occurs across most temperate, subtropical and tropical oceans, favouring deep water near continental slopes and submarine canyons. (Wikipedia, general species account)
It specializes in deep-water squid and fish captured by suction feeding. Cuvier's beaked whales are extraordinary divers, with instrumented animals producing records exceeding two hours and depths of nearly 3,000m. They usually surface inconspicuously in small groups and are therefore difficult to observe at sea. (Wikipedia, general species account)
