The large hawk-cuckoo (Hierococcyx sparverioides) breeds widely from temperate Asia along the Himalayas to East Asia, and many populations winter further south. It is known for loud, repetitive calls similar to the common hawk-cuckoo's but without the rising crescendo, and adults are larger and told by a black patch on the chin. It is a brood parasite of babblers and laughingthrushes. (Wikipedia, general species account)

It has been found as a vagrant on Christmas Island. The subspecies bocki of the Malay Peninsula, Sumatra and Borneo is usually considered a separate species. (Wikipedia, general species account)
