Coloeus dauuricus
Range
Eastern Asia; northern birds migrate south in winter
Size
About 32cm
The Daurian jackdaw is a crow-family bird native to eastern Asia and closely related to the western jackdaw. It is about 32cm long, about the same size as or slightly smaller than the western jackdaw, with the same proportions and identical habits. The head, throat, wings and tail are glossy black, and many adults have large areas of creamy-white on the lower parts extending up around the neck as a broad collar (Wikipedia, general species account).
Darker adults and young birds resemble western jackdaws, but Daurian jackdaws have black irises rather than the grey-white of the Eurasian jackdaw. In the north of its range it migrates further south in winter (Wikipedia, general species account).
