It is omnivorous, eating a wide range of insects, especially mosquitoes, earthworms and berries. It has a dark brown back and rump, black spots on the face, breast and flanks, a pale supercilium, a reddish-brown underwing and a white belly. It is closely related to the more southerly Naumann's thrush, with which it has often been treated as one species. It nests in trees, laying 3–5 eggs, and the male has a simple fluted song similar to the redwing. (Wikipedia, general species account)
