Dwarf Fat-tailed Jerboa

The dwarf fat-tailed jerboa is a rodent in the family Dipodidae found in China, Iran, Kazakhstan, Mongolia and Russia. It lives mostly in desert environments, which may explain its small size: it goes long periods without food and water and so needs a lower metabolic rate (Wikipedia, general species account).
