Diet
Fish, cephalopods and crustaceans
Habitat
Shallow coastal and continental-shelf waters
Range
East Asian coastal waters from the Taiwan Strait northward to Korea and Japan
Size
Approximately 1.5–2m
The East Asian finless porpoise is a small cetacean lacking a dorsal fin; instead, its rounded back carries a low ridge covered with small tubercles. It is generally grey, with a blunt head and no projecting beak. The species occupies shallow coastal and shelf waters of East Asia, from the Taiwan Strait northward through Chinese, Korean and Japanese seas. (Wikipedia, general species account)
It feeds on fishes, cephalopods and crustaceans and commonly travels alone, in pairs or in small groups. Finless porpoises surface with a smooth rolling motion and rarely leap, so even animals living near busy coasts can be difficult to detect. (Wikipedia, general species account)
