Cecropis daurica
Habitat
Open, often hilly areas with clearings and cultivation
Range
Eastern and southeastern Asia to north-eastern India and Taiwan
The eastern red-rumped swallow is found in open, often hilly, areas with clearings and cultivation across eastern and southeastern Asia to north-eastern India and Taiwan. The European and African red-rumped swallows were formerly considered subspecies of it. Eight subspecies are recognised, from northeast Kazakhstan and Mongolia to Taiwan and the Philippines, and erythropygia is listed for central India (Wikipedia, general species account).
It was described in 1769 from a specimen from near Zmeinogorsk in Russia, and the species name refers to Dauria, a region east of Lake Baikal.
