Balaenoptera edeni
Diet
Schooling fish and planktonic crustaceans
Habitat
Warm, often coastal tropical and subtropical waters
Range
Principally the Indo-Pacific
Eden's whale is the smaller, more coastally associated member of the Bryde's-whale complex. Like related rorquals, it has a streamlined body, an upright curved dorsal fin and three longitudinal ridges on the top of the head. Current treatments distinguish Balaenoptera edeni from the larger and more oceanic B. brydei, although their taxonomic history has produced considerable confusion. (Wikipedia, Bryde's-whale account)
The species inhabits warm tropical and subtropical waters, principally in the Indo-Pacific. It feeds by engulfing concentrations of schooling fish and planktonic crustaceans, using its expandable throat grooves and baleen to filter prey from the water. (Wikipedia, Bryde's-whale account)
