The Eurasian chaffinch is a common and widespread small finch breeding across much of Europe and the Palearctic to Siberia. The male is brightly coloured with a blue-grey cap and rust-red underparts; the female is more subdued, but both have two white wing bars and white sides to the tail. Birds in warm regions are sedentary, while those in the colder north winter further south. The source does not describe its status in China. (Wikipedia, general species account)
Outside the breeding season it forms flocks in open countryside and forages for seeds on the ground; in the breeding season it forages on trees for invertebrates, especially caterpillars. The female builds a deep-cupped nest, the clutch is typically four or five eggs hatching in about 13 days, and the chicks fledge in around 14 days and are fed by both adults for several weeks afterwards.
