The Eurasian stone-curlew, or Eurasian thick-knee, is a northern member of the stone-curlew family, 38–46cm long with a wingspan of 76–88cm and a weight of 290–535g. It has a strong yellow and black bill, large yellow eyes that give it a goggle-eyed look, and cryptic plumage, and is striking in flight with black and white wing markings. The pale buff eggs are variably spotted, streaked or blotched with brown or purple-grey (Wikipedia, general species account).

It is largely nocturnal, particularly when singing its loud, wailing songs, which are reminiscent of curlews. It probably first breeds at three years old, and the precocial young leave the nest soon after hatching and are cared for by both parents for 36–42 days. The source does not describe its status in China (Wikipedia, general species account).
