Size

The fire-breasted flowerpecker is one of the smallest flowerpeckers, weighing 7–9 g and measuring under 7 cm, and it has been described as perhaps the smallest bird of India. It is found in the Indian subcontinent and South-east Asia. Like other flowerpeckers it feeds on fruit and helps disperse fruiting plants. (Wikipedia, general species account)

The male has glossy blue-black upperparts, a buffy underside with a bright red breast patch and a short black stripe down the middle toward the belly; the female is dull. The call is a shrill staccato likened to snipping scissors. In Nainital it breeds in June and July, building a thin, felt-like pendant purse-shaped nest with a side opening. Two or three eggs are laid and both sexes incubate and care for the young. (Wikipedia, general species account)
