François's leaf monkey has dark brown, black or dark-grey fur marked by a white stripe running from each corner of the mouth toward the ear and a pale crest above the eyes. Its long, straight black tail ends in a white tip, while newborns are golden yellow with black tails. Adults measure 40–76cm and weigh 4.3–14kg, with males slightly larger than females. The small head, shortened forelimbs and grasping hands suit movement through the canopy. (Animal Diversity Web)
This arboreal, daytime-active langur inhabits densely forested tropical valleys and limestone country in southern Guangxi, northern Vietnam and west-central Laos. Groups generally contain one adult male with several females, and recorded home ranges cover roughly 157 hectares. Mature foliage forms the core of its diet, supplemented by fruit and occasional insects; a multi-chambered stomach supports fermentation of fibrous leaves. Mating occurs throughout the year, gestation lasts six to seven months, and a female normally produces one infant. (Animal Diversity Web)
