Gekko alpinus
Habitat
Shrubs, dry rocky cliffs, rock crevices and building walls in an arid river valley
Range
Jinsha River basin along the Sichuan–Tibet border, China
The Alpine Gecko is a recently described nocturnal gecko from the Hengduan Mountains of southwestern China. It is known only from the Jinsha River basin near the border between Batang County in Sichuan and Mangkang County in Tibet, at elevations of approximately 2,400–2,542m. (Original species description)
The species occupies the dry-hot Jinsha River valley, where individuals have been found among shrubs, on dry rocky cliffs, inside cliff crevices and on the walls of buildings. Its occurrence at these elevations led its describers to characterize it as the most strongly montane member of the subgenus Japonigekko. (Original species description)
