Gekko kwangsiensis

Basic stats

Habitat

Karst landscape associated with isolated Daming Mountain

Range

Guangxi, China

Size

Up to approximately 7cm snout–vent length

The Kwangsi Gecko is a Chinese gecko described in 2015 from Wuming in Guangxi. Available comparative measurements indicate a snout–vent length approaching 7cm. It differs from related Chinese Gekko species in features including the numbers of precloacal pores, scales around the eye, dorsal tubercle rows and toe lamellae, together with its dorsal pattern. (Original species description)

The species is endemic to Guangxi and forms part of a lineage of geckos associated with southern China's fragmented karst landscapes. More recent research identifies its range with isolated Daming Mountain in the Youjiang River basin, where geographical isolation and specialization to karst environments have contributed to differentiation among related gecko species. (Original species description; peer-reviewed karst-gecko study)
