The Chinese cave gecko, Hainan cave gecko or Chinese leopard gecko (Goniurosaurus hainanensis) is a nocturnal gecko endemic to Hainan Island, China. It dwells on the sides of rock formations and forest floors and grows to about 22 cm, occasionally over 23 cm. (The Reptile Database; Wikipedia, general species account)

It has large red eyes, from maroon to crimson, with movable eyelids like the better-known leopard gecko. The exotic pet trade has reduced numbers since the early 2000s and could eventually threaten the species, though the population is reported to have stabilised in recent years.
