The grey-crowned goldfinch, also called the eastern or Himalayan goldfinch, is a small finch distributed through Central Asia and the Himalayas. It is 10.5–14 cm long with a wingspan of 21.5–25.5 cm and weighs 15–21 g. In the non-breeding season it moves to lower levels in the Himalaya and Central Asia, an altitudinal migrant. The male has brighter and more extensive red on the face and brighter yellow on the wing than the female, which is the only notable difference between the sexes; both have a pinkish bill. The juvenile lacks the red in the face. The song is a chaffinch-like mix of bubbling and twittering, lacking the tinkling notes of the European goldfinch. (Wikipedia, general species account)
