Hunan Softshell Turtle

The Hunan softshell turtle is a Chinese member of the softshell-turtle family Trionychidae. Its documented distribution includes Hunan, Guangdong, Guangxi and Jiangxi, with records from Taoyuan, Pingjiang, Rucheng, Lingling and Shaoyang counties in Hunan. The specific epithet axenaria has an uncertain meaning and may have originated as a typographical error for arenaria, a Latin term meaning "of sand." (Wikipedia, general species account)
