Range
Indian subcontinent and Central Asia
Wingspan
Wing length 136–144mm in adult males
The Indian golden oriole was formerly considered a subspecies of the Eurasian golden oriole but is now a full species. Adults can be told apart by the black of the eye stripe extending behind the eye. The male has a large carpal patch on the wing and wide yellow tips to the tail feathers. It is smaller than the European species, with a male wing length of 136–144mm against 149–162mm (Wikipedia, general species account).
It breeds in Central Asia and the Indian subcontinent. Indian populations are largely resident while others are migratory. Its flight is dipping but strong, recorded at about 40km/h (Wikipedia, general species account).
