The isabelline wheatear is a small migratory, insect-eating chat that breeds on steppe and open countryside in southern Russia and Central Asia to northern Pakistan and winters in Africa and northwestern India. It looks like a female northern wheatear but is larger at 15 to 16.5 cm, more upright and more tawny, with more black on the tail and white rather than grey-mottled underwing coverts. The sexes are similar (Wikipedia, general species account).

The upperparts are a pale sandy brown with the parchment-like tinge from which it takes its name.
