Jerdon's baza is a moderate-sized brown hawk with a thin, white-tipped black crest usually held erect. It is 41 to 48 cm long with a wingspan of about 117 cm and weighs about 350 g. In flight it can be confused with the crested goshawk or changeable hawk-eagle but has a longer upright crest, very broad paddle-shaped wings and mostly plain pale underparts, with a white chin and a bold black central stripe (Wikipedia, species account).
It is typically seen in pairs making aerial sallies, and occasionally in family parties of 3 to 5 near forest edges.
