The lanceolated warbler is a small Old World warbler of the genus Locustella. The adult has a streaked brown back and whitish-grey underparts with small lance-head-like streaks, also found on the undertail. The sexes are identical, but young birds are yellower below. It breeds from north-west European Russia across the Palearctic to northern Hokkaido and winters in South-east Asia (Wikipedia, general species account).
Five eggs are laid in a nest in a tussock. The song is a monotonous, mechanical, insect-like reeling as in other species in the group, often given at dusk (Wikipedia, general species account).
