The laughing dove is a small, slim, long-tailed pigeon about 25cm long, found in dry scrub and semi-desert habitats where pairs can often be seen feeding on the ground. It is closely related to the spotted dove, which is distinguished by a white and black chequered necklace, and young birds lack the chequered neck markings. In Asia it is often called the little brown dove (Wikipedia, general species account).
It is a resident breeder in Africa, the Middle East and South Asia, and in Western Australia, where it established itself after release from Perth Zoo in 1898. Two eggs are laid a day apart and both parents build the nest, incubate and feed the young, with males spending more time on the nest by day. The source does not describe its status in China (Wikipedia, general species account).
