The little egret is a small white heron with a slender black bill and long black legs, with yellow feet in the western race. It feeds in shallow water and on land on a variety of small creatures. It breeds in the wetlands, waterways and shorelines of warm temperate to tropical parts of Asia, Africa, Australia and Europe, and its range has gradually expanded north (Wikipedia, general species account).
It breeds colonially, often with other waterbirds, on a stick platform in a tree, bush or reed bed. Three to five bluish-green eggs are laid and incubated by both parents for about three weeks, and the young fledge at about six weeks. In warmer places most birds are resident, while northern birds migrate to Africa and southern Asia.
