The long-tailed broadbill is the only bird in its genus, about 25cm long and 50–60g. It has bluish-green plumage on the belly, back and wings and a bright yellow throat and face, and can be identified by its shrill call. It is found in the Himalayas, extending east through north-eastern India to South-east Asia (Wikipedia, general species account).
It is a forest bird that lives on insects and is very sociable, normally travelling in large, noisy parties except during the mating season. It builds a pear-shaped nest in a tree, and the female usually lays five or six eggs, incubated by both sexes, who both feed the young. It is resident and non-migratory (Wikipedia, general species account).
