The long-tailed myotis is a relatively small vesper bat found in northern and eastern Asia, with dark brown wings. Its hind legs are slightly longer than in other Myotis, and the tail is about as long as the head and body. The coat is dark brown above and dark ivory below, and the ears are short and dark brown with a pointed tragus (Wikipedia, general species account).

In Japan it has been observed roosting in tree cavities, tunnels, bridges and buildings, and foraging along streets in Hokkaido. In summer it may share caves with the eastern water bat, though the two hibernate separately in winter (Wikipedia, general species account).
