Garrulax perspicillatus
Range
China, Vietnam, Hong Kong and Macau
The masked laughingthrush occurs in China, Vietnam, Hong Kong and Macau. It is notably social and is often encountered in small, noisy flocks of around seven birds—a habit reflected in a Chinese name meaning “seven brothers and sisters.” The species has no recognized subspecies. Modern classifications place it in Pterorhinus rather than Garrulax, following molecular work on laughingthrush relationships; the exact CSV key is retained here for compatibility.
