The Mediterranean short-toed lark is a small passerine found in and around the Mediterranean Basin, 13–14cm long with the sexes similar. As in the greater short-toed lark, colour varies across the broad range and is not a good distinguishing feature. It is dark-streaked greyish-brown above and white below, with a pale supercilium (Wikipedia, general species account).

It nests on the ground, laying two or three eggs. The song is richer, more varied and imitative than its relative's. Hume's short-toed lark is also sometimes called the lesser short-toed lark. The source does not describe its status in China (Wikipedia, general species account).
