The Mongolian hairy-footed hamster, widely known as Campbell's dwarf hamster, is almost indistinguishable from the related Djungarian hamster, but can be told apart by its biparental care. It typically has a narrow dorsal stripe and brown or grey fur on the belly, and does not turn white in winter. Eight wild specimens examined from Mongolia averaged about 8cm in head and body length (Wikipedia, general species account).
In the wild the breeding season varies by location, beginning towards the middle of April in Tuva and towards the end of April in Mongolia. Females are usually sexually mature at two months and gestation is typically 20 days. Like all hamsters of its genus it is crepuscular and active throughout the year (Wikipedia, general species account).
